09.00 Departure by bus from the Messe Congress
The Gleinalm Tunnel is one of the last long single tube tunnels with counterflow traffic in the Austrian primary road network. The tunnel has a length of 8.3 km and is equipped with a full transverse ventilation system. Six ventilation sections – 4 supported from caverns and two from the portals - provide the required air exchange. September 2013 was the starting date for the excavation of the second tube. In summer 2017 this tube shall be put in operation while the old one will be fully refurbished. Total investment costs for construction and refurbishment will be 243 million Euros.
Within the technical excursion it will be possible to visit the ventilation station at the south portal, the safety relevant facilities in the tunnel and one of the caverns including the ventilation related installations.
